We envision a better way forward
Recognizing the profound impact of type 1 diabetes (T1D), we are committed to changing the narrative from one of surviving to thriving. In addition to the development of our life-changing technology, we are dedicated to education and advocacy for patients and caregivers of all ages.
We encourage young people under the age of 12 who are living with T1D to visit our Kid’s Corner to access educational materials and other resources designed specifically for them.
A new way to treat T1D
In the body, 3 hormones are primarily responsible for regulating blood glucose levels: insulin, glucagon, and somatostatin. Each of these essential hormones is produced by clusters of cells in the pancreas called islets. In T1D, islets are damaged or lost due to attacks from the person’s own immune system, resulting in abnormally high or dangerously low blood sugar levels.
Our minimally invasive implantable biohybrid organ system works to replace these dysfunctional islet cells, ultimately restoring the insulin, glucagon, and somatostatin the body needs to function.
This complete approach treats the underlying cause of the disease while helping to minimize the need for constant vigilance and worry that so many patients and their loved ones currently face.
